Catching Up Through the Fall

Man! We have been incredibly busy these past three months and I am so excited to share a little bit about our crazy fall! In the last quarter I have visited Germany, recruited at Georgia Tech, celebrated Joshua's 26th birthday, been to a lovely wedding (Yay Nelsons!), taken a road trip to Illinois (to see the now SIX Dakin kiddos), hosted some wonderful visitors, ran my first 5k, and celebrated my sister's 20th birthday!

I know that we have been pretty quiet on the blogging front these past few months but I would like to take some time every day this next week and write a quick blog post about one of our fall activities, trips, or visits.

So for this first day, here's a picture of Joshua on his birthday!

I love celebrating this guy and all of the value he adds to the world by walking in it. Per tradition, I got him a birthday cake that had 26 candles on it. This year I got a smallish ice cream cake so it was a challenge to fit all the candles on! Joshua has recently reigniting his interest in space, so I took him to a local planetarium and observatory where they has this huge telescope. We were able to see the moon with stunning clarity and even Saturn's rings! We also went bowling and ate some delicious Mexican food.

Birthdays are not as big of a deal to Joshua as they are to me, but he is always lovingly patient as I obsess over what to buy him, pick out the perfect cake, and plan the days activities. I just can't let such a special day pass by without making a big deal of it. I know it reveals my sentimentality, but I love marking the passage of time. It's an exciting invitation for both self reflection and dreams of the future.  It's an occasion to celebrate the past and the future yet untold.

And I, for one, am incredibly stoked to watch his story be written.
Happy birthday, Joshua.
